There is a high demand for nursing informatics professionals across the United States and the District of Columbia is no exception. Best of all, this career has a very high income potential, oftentimes professionals in this field make into the triple digits.
To gain District of Columbia nursing informatics certification, complete the following steps:
- Contact the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and attain an Informatics Nursing” certification application. The application can only be completed after all qualifying criteria have been met: registered nurse’s license, two years of registered nurse experience, baccalaureate degree in nursing, thirty hours of continuing education in informatics, 200-2,000 hours of practical experience in nurse informatics (may include academic credits).
- Pay an initial certification fee along with application submission to the ANCC. The fee is $270 for all ANA members, $340 for all ANI members, and $390 for all non-members.
- Once the application is approved, the ANCC will administer a national nurse informatics competency examination.
- After examination is passed, the ANCC will award a nursing informatics certificate proving certification. A nursing informatics certificate in District of Columbia will be valid for five years before renewal will be necessary.
