The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the job rate for physical therapists to exceed the average for other occupations in 2010.  There are three reasons for this unusual growth:

  • The increase of older people within the U.S.
  • The increase in the number of newborn babies that are surviving in spite of birth defects.
  • The increase in the number of people who are able to survive traumas.

Approximately 35 % of the students who apply to the physical therapy program are accepted, and of those approximately 40% actually matriculate.  Ninety percent of those matriculated graduate.  Because of the growing need for physical therapists, all of the graduates for the past five years have found jobs after graduation and many of them had job offers before they actually graduated.   Those who matriculated for 2010 had an overall GPA of 3.4.

The outlook for physical therapists in the District of Columbia is above average for job occupations.  From day to day the average salary of jobs being offered in this field changes. But the average District of Columbia physical therapist salary is $90,000 per year.
