You can earn an exercise science degree in Oregon at the undergraduate or graduate level, and you can do much of the work in the convenience of your home or workplace. While it is an option to do coursework online, some certifications do require an internship out in the community.

Many programs prepare Oregon residents for certification with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. In addition to core courses in areas like physiology and movement science, students may have the opportunity to specialize in one of several fields. A concentration in fitness and wellness might emphasize research and program design while one in rehabilitation science would emphasize correct exercise. Certification in different forms of emergency response, e.g. emergency cardiac care or CPR, is an expectation for both certification and employment.

Some of the choicest positions in Oregon require graduate degrees. Some people pursue master’s degrees in sports science while others use a bachelor’s degree in sports science as a stepping-stone to master’s level coursework in occupational or physical therapy. A post-master’s certificate is another good option, particularly for people already employed in health care professions.
