Find the right school for you
Family nurse practitioner programs in Montana will provide registered nurses who already hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing the additional knowledge, skills, and practical experience to successfully complete a national examination and become family nurse practitioners. This will enable them to diagnose, treat, and serve people of all ages. Some programs require a minimum undergraduate grade point average, as well as successful completion of undergraduate courses in physical assessment, community health, statistics, and psychology. Many programs also prefer that students have at least one year of clinical experience as a registered nurse prior to acceptance. Most degree programs can be completed in two to three years, including 45-50 hours of course credits and several hundred hours of clinical practice in various supervised settings.
Graduate students' access nursing courses through a variety of channels, primarily through online courses that may include supplementary teleconference and interactive video components. A thesis or professional project may be included in the degree requirements, and some programs require a comprehensive oral examination that takes place during the last semester of study.
Practicum experiences are varied and include opportunities to practice in rural and frontier areas of Montana, often involving clinical experiences with the Native American population that resides here.
