Find the right school for you
Nursing as a profession now has more educational options than ever before. Rather than having one predetermined scope of practice, nursing has matured into an extremely diverse allied health profession. Currently, there are fifteen schools in the state of Nevada that are accredited to provide nursing education. Of those fifteen schools, six of them have provisional approval by the state. Provisional approval is essentially a trial period for the school in order to prove that they are capable of producing students that can pass the nursing licensure exam. In order for a school to become fully accredited they must first produce a graduating class with an 80% pass rate on the national licensure exam.
Schools in Nevada that train family nurse practitioners do so at the graduate level. This allows students to obtain their RN licensure at a school of their choice, as an undergraduate, and then continue on to the family nurse practitioner program. Currently the state of Nevada has a total of 620 nurse practitioners. For every 100,000 individuals in the state there are 23 nurse practitioners. This figure is less than half of the national U.S. average which totals 51 nurse practitioners for the same population density.
