Schools in the state of Wyoming offer several nursing degree programs that range from a two year associate’s degree, to a master’s degree level program. This is a standard arrangement provided by most schools. Apart from this; however, there are some interesting provisions not seen in other programs that offer a similar education.

The state of Wyoming allows students with a non-nursing bachelor’s degree to attain a master’s degree in nursing provided they have been licensed as a registered nurse. This specific pathway would require students to hold a bachelor’s degree in any general area of science. Upon completion of the appropriate bridge courses, students would be allowed to graduate with a master’s of science in nursing.

Schools offering graduate degrees in Wyoming typically offer specialized concentrations within their graduate curriculum. Students have the option of gearing their NP studies towards becoming a family nurse practitioner among several other specialties. Despite the academic rigors involved with attaining a graduate education, there are an astonishing number of nurse practitioners in the state of Wyoming. It has been reported that for every 100,000 member of the population there are 85 nurse practitioners. This is significantly higher than the average for the United States, which is listed as having only 51 nurse practitioners per 100,000. It has been estimated that there are approximately 135,000 practicing nurse practitioners in the state of Wyoming.
