Certification programs for EKG technicians can be accredited or approved by various organizations. One is the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). More information can be found at www.ncctinc.com. Another organization that approves EKG training and certification programs in Florida is the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT). Information can be found at www.aspt.org/programapprovals.html.  Another credentialing organization is Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). No matter which school you choose, whether brick-and-mortar or online, you will have to complete a practical portion of the coursework in a laboratory setting.


Certifications require continuing education to maintain. The NCCT requires 14 hours of continuing education each year to maintain your NCET (National Certified ECG Technician) certification. CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) requires 16 hours of continuing education over three years  to maintain its CCT (Certified Cardiograph Technician) certification.
