How to become a Licensed Practical Nurse in Florida
In order to be granted a license as a Practical Nurse in Florida, you must be a high school graduate as well as a graduate of a board approved online or campus based Florida LPN program. One must supply proof of graduation along with a completed application to the regulatory Board – the Florida State Board of Nursing. Another requirement that must be fulfilled before a license can be granted is that the applicant must pass the NCLEX – PN, National Council of Licensing Exam for Practical Nurses. The exam is a computer based test that is mostly multiple choice style questions. Of the 85 – 205 questions on the test, 25 are preview questions that are not graded. The remaining questions are other typical exam format questions that can easily be graded on the computer. Applicants must also submit to a fingerprint analysis. For those applicants who do not have English as a first language, they must display the ability to communicate effectively using the English language.
Licensure by endorsement is an option for those candidates that have been employed as a practical nurse in another state. One must have worked two out of three immediately preceding years, with no criminal complaints on file in order to qualify for this process.
