Physician Assistant Schools in - Florida FL

According to an April 26, 2009, article in the New York Times, one proposal of the Obama administration for reducing the national doctor shortage is to encourage greater use of nurse practitioners and physician assistants.  This is particularly true in Florida.  Physician Assistant Schools in Florida have seen an increased rate of enrollment in recent years.  According to Bloomberg.com on December 16, 2009, Harvard Medical School in Boston has not responded to the doctor shortage by adding to its enrollment, but has chosen instead to educate its physicians to depend on physician assistants and other professionals to expand the availability of good patient care. Furthermore, a report by Denner Group International suggested that the shortage of doctors will create a huge demand for physician assistants.

A 2006 article in The Bradenton Herald quoted a report by the American Academy of Family Physicians noting that Florida was among five states where the doctor shortage would be most severe. Especially in retirement communities the shortage of family doctors will be a problem at least through 2020, and the number of family doctors must increase by 63 percent by then to cover the medical needs of the state’s rapidly increasing population.  Physician assistant schools in Florida are preparing to meet the increased levels of enrollment with expanded facilities and more professors.

In consequence of all these issues, the increase in the numbers of physician assistants in Florida between 2006 and 2016 is expected to be 37 percent, as opposed to a growth of only 27 percent nationally. To support this growth, one physician assistant university in Florida recently had its physician assistant program advanced to “school” status.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Physician Assistants in Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa, St. Petersburg and Orlando, Florida may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Baptist Medical Center, Florida Hospital Orlando, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and Memorial Regional Hospital.
