There are numerous educational methods for would-be sonographers in Florida, but whatever method you decide on, be sure that it is CAAHEP-approved. There are plenty of accredited Florida ultrasound technician schools. Many colleges, universities, and hospitals are accredited by the CAAHEP.

  • Two-year programs are the most common. They usually culminate in an associate’s degree. There are several Florida ultrasound technician schools that are two years in length.
  • Four-year programs are also available and usually result in a bachelor’s degree.
  • One-year training programs are available, and trainees typically receive a vocational certificate at their completion. This training is not CAAHEP-accredited, but people who have previous medical experience may take these programs and be considered for a career in sonography thereafter.

Here’s what you’ll need to be accepted into one of these ultrasound tech schools in Florida:

  • One-year program: Would-be sonographers need to be eligible to work in a profession that is sonography-related and is considered part of the allied health field.
  • Two-year program: Would-be sonographers are required to have a high school degree or GED. They also need a strong educational background in general physics, basic science, and algebra, and need to be educated at the college level in communication skills, biological science, algebra, and general physics. Skills that are helpful for two-year degree candidates include critical thinking, active learning, active listening, reading comprehension, oral and written expression, learning strategies, instructional skills, and social perceptiveness.

University and college curriculum traditionally includes classes in the following areas: diagnostic procedures, clinical medicine, patient care, physical and biological science, ultrasound applications, and instrumentation.

Through campus or online programs, aspiring Ultrasound Technicians in Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa, St. Petersburg and Orlando, Florida may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Baptist Medical Center, Memorial Regional Hospital, Mount Sinai Medical Center, University Hospital and Medical Center and Broward General Medical Center.

We currently have no schools offerings in FL for this career path at this time. (Check back with us)
