Dialysis Tech Certification in Georgia - GA

Until recently, rules regarding dialysis technician certification in Georgia were a bit vague. However, new federal regulations have put in the place the requirement for all dialysis technicians to be certified by examination of the Board of Nephrology Examiners and Nursing Technology (BONENT). This new regulation requires all dialysis technicians to obtain certification as Certified Hemodialysis Technologists (CHT) and has placed even more emphasis on the importance of this profession and its affect on patient care and kidney treatment.

As you obtain certification and begin your job search, you may to decide to focus your career on hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, or both. Hemodialysis is the process of extracting blood as it is produced and passing it through a filter, acting in place of the failing kidneys. Peritoneal dialysis, on the other hand, requires tube insertion into the abdominal cavity and uses the membranous lining as a filter. Choosing to specialize in both of these fields of dialysis will you make you more employable and will ultimately open more doors of opportunity.

Due to the aging population and the increased need for medical treatment, dialysis technicians can expect to find substantial growth in their profession in the coming years. The Bureau of Labor Statistics identified an expected 21% increase in the demand for general health care occupations from 2006 to 2016, making this particular career not only a rewarding one, but also a growing part of the need medical attention.
