Surgical Technologist Training in Georgia

Surgical technologists typically have a low-profile as far as most patients are concerned, but the role of a surgical technologist during a surgical procedure is supportive, demanding, and imperative to performing a successful operation. Georgia surgical technologist training is dedicated to turning out the most qualified, competent individuals to act as surgical technologists when a patient’s life hangs in the balance.

If you want to learn how to become a surgical tech in Georgia, then you will be interested to learn what exactly your training will consist of. During operative training, you will learn how to perform the most essential duties of a surgical technologist, including:

  • Preparing instrumentation before surgery
  • Replenishing operative supplies
  • Sterilizing operative supplies to prevent, control, and reduce the risk of infection
  • Organizing and arranging operative equipment
  • Cleaning the operating room
  • Assisting the surgeon during surgery
  • Working calmly and effectively under pressure
  • Administering CPR and life-saving measures when needed

After your training has been completed, your next step is to get certified. The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) provide an extensive examination to award students the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) designation. While this is not a mandatory certification in Georgia, many employers prefer to hire CSTs.
