The nurse informatics programs in Hawaii first require that you have a bachelor’s degree and current nursing credentials. If you have only gotten a certificate as a nurse you will want to pursue a BSN so that you can continue the education necessary to become a nurse informatics professional. One of the best ways to pursue a Hawaii nursing informatics program is through an online university.
You will want to sit for the national licensing examination as an RN. Eventually you will gain the additional credential for nursing informatics, which you are only eligible for after completing a nurse informatics course of study. Nursing informatics is available as a Master’s program. You should expect to spend 18 months to two years in this advanced degree program.
While pursuing the Master’s degree you will study the basis of new technological interface as well as the human aspect of integrating new technology. The program will also consist of an internship where you will be able to put your knowledge and skills into practice. Once you have earned your advanced degree in nursing informatics you will then want to test for the additional nursing credential through the NCLEX testing entity in Hawaii in order to be certified to work in nursing informatics.
After you complete the education necessary you can look forward to a rewarding career in nursing informatics. In this profession you will work rarely with patients but more closely with nursing staff and IT professionals. You will be helping patients indirectly and eventually making the healthcare team more efficient.
Keep in mind that there will be continued education required as you work. Every two years in Hawaii you must renew your nursing license and the specific credentials you have earned. You can expect that you will have at least 150 hours of continuing education to complete every two years.
