The State of Colorado is divided into six regions, which are: Centennial, Central, San Luis Valley, Southeastern Colorado, Southwestern Colorado and Western Colorado. Within each region of the state, health education is a vital concern, so much that Colorado has established Area Health Education Centers (AHECs). Part of the mission of these health education centers is to increase public health and community awareness of health problems and prevention strategies.

It follows that the position of health educator is a necessary one in Colorado. Gaining a health education degree in Colorado is the first step towards becoming a health educator in that state. A minimum of a bachelor degree in health or health education is required, although for many advanced positions, a graduate degree is mandated. Schools that train health educators exist across Colorado in cities such as Denver, Colorado Springs, Aurora and Lakewood. In addition, online distance learning degree programs are also available in health education. Whichever program you choose, you will be taking courses in health, prevention, anatomy, medical terminology, epidemiology, and the sciences. Bachelor degree programs average four years, while masters’ degree programs are an additional two years of study. Any program you choose will also most likely require an internship or practicum for a semester or for an entire year. This will offer you the chance to gain real-world experience in your chosen job field.
