Find the right school for you
Delaware is very proactive when it comes to health education. Although the state is rather small, it has a large organized network of health teachers called the Health Education Network of Delaware (HENOD), which represents professionals and volunteers working in the health education field. This organization is dedicated to improving health education programs, services, policies and resources through training, networking and collaboration with other health professionals. You may contact HENOD at Health Education Network of Delaware, c/o Office of Health Education, Division of Public Health, Blue Hen Corporate Center, Suite 201B, 655 S. Bay Road, Dover, DE 19901-4615.
Because of the complex nature of the position of health educator, it only follows that one must obtain a health education degree in Delaware in order to be able to work in that state. Most entry-level jobs in health education (such as teaching in the public school system) require a bachelor degree, while more advanced positions (like teaching in higher educational settings) need a graduate degree. These educational programs teach the basic responsibilities and competencies of the position of health educator (which were established by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc, or NCHEC), including assessing both individual and community needs; planning useful health education programs; the implementation of health education programs; the evaluation of effectiveness of health education programs; and coordination of the provision of health education services. Additionally these programs will also introduce aspiring health educators in Delaware to the way in which they will be acting as public resources while communicating vital public health information to the community.
