Those seeking a health education degree in Montana have many options. Entire towns have sprung up around the state’s biggest schools, affording all sorts of interesting opportunities to both the serious student, and to those looking to socialize a little more. Outdoorsy types will find some of the most scenic and untouched wilderness in the US, while at the same time the state is still home to enough major cities and population areas to interest those who prefer hotels to hot dogs.

Health education degrees in Montana are earned in 4-year health education programs, offered by colleges, universities, and online schools. Bachelor’s degrees have quickly become the norm for almost all entry-level health education careers, while those looking for jobs higher-up are most likely going to need a master’s.

No matter where in Montana you go, you’ll study the same basic things as a part of your health educator education. Communication, in both written and verbal form, is an absolute necessity, so you’ll study English, writing for medical publications, psychology, public speaking, and interpersonal communication.

Over the course of your four years, you’ll also deal heavily with medical topics, as health educators frequently are required to break down medical conditions, diagnoses, and treatment plans, with both patients and the general public. You’ll likely also deal with medical law and ethics, especially if you plan on getting a career as a social worker or a more regulatory, oversight-oriented field.

Usually internships in Montana start being offered in the third year. Take the ones that are most relevant to what you intend to do after school, or, if you don’t know yet, pursue a bunch and see what aspect of the profession most interests you. Internships look great on a resume and may be just the extra touch you need to land the health educator job you’ve been hoping for.

If you decide to get a master’s degree, you have a few different options. Health educators typically get degrees in education, public health, or a scientific field, but depending on where you want to go, you might find yourself emphasizing different subjects. A master’s usually takes two or three years, and almost all of that is spent on intensive study on a far more specific level than a bachelor’s.
