Find the right school for you
Nevada is one of the most active states in the US for tourism. Not only is the state home to great areas of sweeping desert, it’s also home to the world famous Las Vegas, and the massive metropolitan center of Reno.
Due to the climate and constant influx of visitors, Nevada has some specific medical needs that health educators are perfectly trained to deal with, and if you’re interested in pursuing a career in health education, you’re in a good position.
Your first step down this career path is to earn a health education degree. In Nevada this is most commonly done online, though there are still several strong colleges and universities with health education programs.
You can expect your curriculum to emphasize equal measures of educational training, communication building, and medical knowledge. Health educators teach classrooms of students, they teach individual patients about their diagnoses and what they can do to stay healthy, and they educate the public on medical issues and how to avoid common preventable diseases.
Since a bachelor’s degree is mandatory for even entry-level health education job in Nevada, you’ll need to be in school for at least four years, or six to seven if you want a master’s degree.
Internship opportunities typically begin opening up at about the third year of your education, so keep your eye out and take any and all you can that are relevant for the type of career and job you’re looking for.
