Health Education in Ohio
In order to be able to teach others about health issues, there are standards to be met in the state of Ohio. These standards ensure that the educator is teaching relevant material and that they are teaching it in such a way as to be easily understood by the public. Such standards vary for each specific area, but the main focus of the standards is in the education of those who are teaching the material.
The best way to find out about the specific standards of the chosen field is to contact the authority on such matters, which would consist of two branches. The State Medical Board of Ohio issues some of the licenses for various medical fields and would be an excellent resource for learning about specific standards. The Ohio Department of Education would be another good resource for those who wish to learn about educational matters that pertain to health education professions.
All Health Educator careers in Ohio begin with a bachelor’s degree. With a BS in education, aspiring educators can begin actively working as they pursue their master’s degree. The education is the beginning of the process of certification in any field. Once the education is developed, the professional can become certified and later licensed when necessary in the state of Ohio. These are the minimal requirements for professionals in this field. If these requirements are met, then the individual can practice in their chosen field. This does not necessarily mean that they can teach in that chosen field.
The ability to practice the profession the individual wishes to teach about is but the first step in becoming a health educator. It is not always enough to know the field. Some areas of health education in Ohio require that the instructor has some knowledge of teaching standards. This knowledge enables the instructor to effectively teach the material that they themselves are able to put into practice. The Ohio Department of Education is a great place to start when exploring the standards for educators in specific areas.
