Health Informatics Degree in Rhode Island - RI

Rhode Island has been working on its statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE) system since 2007. This has created many jobs in medical informatics and health information administration. It is predicted that, with the number of small physician practices yet to integrate into the HIE system; jobs in healthcare informatics will continue to increase in demand in Rhode Island. This necessitates a wide assortment of medical informatics programs in Rhode Island to properly educate and train individuals to work in the relatively new discipline of health information administration.

Health informatics training through health information management schools is available online and through campus based institutions in Rhode Island. There are many components to health informatics courses, but some things remain constant from one health informatics training program to the next. Health informatics courses you will most likely find in any health informatics training program include topics such as The Internet and the Future of Patient Care; Health Informatics Systems Analysis and Design; Managing Systems Level Change; Telemedicine; Electronic Health Records; and Clinical Decision Support. After graduation, some students opt to become certified with the AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association), getting their RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) credentials through examination. This certification, while not necessary to work in HIA or HIM in the state of Rhode Island, is often preferred by employers.
