Health Information Managment Course in Maine - ME

The Maine Health Information Management Association (MeHIMA) says that it has about 272 members working in the health information management professions within the state. Just what is health informatics? Health informatics deals not only with the safety, security, completeness, and accessibility of medical records, but also the analysis of these records in an effort to streamline processes and maximize quality and efficiency within healthcare. It is a burgeoning field not only in Maine but all across the country, as more and more medical facilities are converting their paper medical records to electronic ones.

Getting into the field requires a health informatics degree in Maine. If one wants to become an administrator, one needs a bachelor degree and a certificate stating that he or she has passed the RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) examination offered by the AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association).  While you may go to any school or college in Maine that offers courses in health informatics, you should choose one that is AHIMA approved so that you will have no trouble getting your credentials following graduation when you go to complete the RHIA exam. Currently, there are RHIA positions open in Maine in MaineGeneral Health in Augusta, WVMI/Quality Insights in Togus, and Magee Resource Group in Lewiston, according to classified listings on indeed.com.
