Health Information Managment Course in Texas - TX

There are several options for students that want to earn a health information management degree in Texas.  First, students with hectic schedules, transportation issues, work conflicts, or family obligations can enroll in an online school. By graduating from an online education program, students in Texas can earn degrees like an Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Management, Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management, Bachelor of Science in Health Administration: Health Information Concentration, and Master of Health Administration—Informatics.

Even though students may prefer the convenience of an online education, those that plan to use a degree in health informatics in order to become a registered health information administrator (RHIA) must complete a baccalaureate program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Presently, there two health information management (HIM) undergraduate degree programs in Texas that will qualify students for certification. These programs are provided by state universities in Houston and San Marcos and both award graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management Degree. Students that are more interested in graduate programs will find a Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics and a Master of Information Sciences in Health Informatics option available as well. If a student finds a health informatics program that is not endorsed by the CAHIIM, they are encouraged to contact the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and find out if a selected program is accredited by another agency that has a reciprocity agreement with the AHIMA.
