Health Information Technology Certification in Mississippi - MS

RHIT certification in Mississippi begins with a strong educational foundation. Before you can be eligible for certification, however, you must obtain a health information technology degree. There are a couple of degree options, so it is important for you to be aware of these options before deciding which will work best for you.

In general, most health information technicians in Mississippi have an associate degree, which is a 2-year program. There are bachelor degree options as well for health information technologists that are interested in furthering their careers.

Most health information technology degree programs consist of courses in:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Medical Terminology
  • Data Analysis
  • Healthcare Reimbursement Methods

Because of the current developments in EHR technology, some of your coursework will also involve learning how to operate and manipulate an EHR system.

Once you have finished with your schooling, you can take the exam administered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Upon passage of this test, you will be recognized as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

With the completion of online or campus-based programs, aspiring health information technicians in Jackson, West Gulfport, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Hattiesburg, Mississippi will be prepared for dynamic careers with some of the largest healthcare facilities in the state, including Tupelo Hospital, North Mississippi Medical Center, Baptist Memorial Hospital, and University of Mississippi Medical Center.
