Now that you are ready to begin pursuing your career in HIT, you will need to enroll in a degree program. Although there are a few options, you need to decide on the degree program that you can benefit from the most and that can help you achieve your future career goals.

In Nevada, an entry-level HIT career requires at least an associate degree in health information studies. This is a 2-year program, and you can attend on a full-time or part-time basis. You can also choose to pursue a bachelor degree, which is a 4-year program. You will not need this level of education initially, but if you are considering career advancement into managerial positions, the 4-year degree is worth considering.

Once you have completed your training program, you can apply for health information technology certification in Nevada, which is available through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). You are required to complete a competency exam, and passing this exam allows you to practice with the title of Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
