Those who complete the Registered Health Information Technology (RHIT) certification in North Dakota will be well prepared to support the electronic health records systems of the 53 hospitals, approximately 300 clinics and numerous other medical facilities and physician’s offices that are found throughout North Dakota. While healthcare organizations are indeed looking for highly skilled information technologists to facilitate electronic health information exchange, those who have earned RHIT certification in North Dakota typically earn higher salaries and have greater career options. In order to apply for the Registered Health Information Technology (RHIT) certification, a student must have completed, or be in the final semester and nearing completion of, an associate’s degree  from a Health Information Management (HIM) school that offers a program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the leading professional organization for health information management, informatics, and heath data technology, issues the RHIT certification after the applicant has passed the qualifying examination.  Those who are interested in applying for the RHIT certification should submit a completed application with accompanying documentation and a check for $229 for AHIMA members or $299 for non-members to: Attn: RHIA/RHIT Exams, AHIMA, Dept. 77-3081, Chicago, IL 60678-3081.
