Herbalist Certification in Alaska - AK

Herbalist certification in Alaska is not formally required at this time and an herbalist is essentially a self-defined profession.  However, if you are interested in pursuing credentialing from a recognized group, such as the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH), which is among the largest organizations that focus on the practice of medical herbalism, or the American Herbalists Guild (AHG), you can obtain certification.

Some of the requirements mandate that an applicant must have approximately three to four years of herbal medicine experience. An application may be submitted, along with an application fee, accompanied by a biography outlining experience and training, as well as letters of reference from professional herbalists who can attest to the quality of your work.

Many students combine the study of herbal medicine with the study of acupuncture. The State of Alaska does require that a person obtain a license to practice acupuncture from the Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing.  To obtain licensure, applicants must submit an official transcript from a school or college of acupuncture accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACCAOM) and a certified copy of a certificate from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
