Herbalist Certification in Oregon - OR

Since herbalism is not a formalized or regulated profession, Oregon does not require herbalists to be certified to practice herbal medicine. However, because herbalism is a complicated medical practice requiring special knowledge of complex plant-body interactions, many clients, employers, and colleagues prefer working with herbalists who have some form of credentials proclaiming their education or other professional qualifications. Fortunately, there are several options for acquiring herbal certification in Oregon. Most herbalism schools will award a certificate, diploma, or other credential to students who complete the required coursework and graduate from the program.

Alternatively, you can seek nationally recognized certification as a Registered Herbalist from a professional organization such as the American Herbalists Guild or acquire a certificate in herbology from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Many other professional and educational herbalism associations also offer similar credentials to herbalists who can demonstrate their skills and qualifications. Some herbalists also choose to become certified in another form of alternative medicine, like acupuncture or massage therapy, so that they can run a multi-treatment practice. Whatever form of certification you choose, it is sure to help you get a leg up on a successful career in cities like Portland, Eugene, or Medford.
