Herbalist Certification in Washington - WA

Herbal Medicine Degrees in Washington

As herbalism is not yet a formalized profession with a standardized educational curriculum, the state of Washington does not require herbalists to acquire herbal certification in order to practice herbal medicine. However, it is possible to acquire herbal certification in Washington from many herbalism programs and schools. Herbalist certification can help demonstrate your qualifications and commitment to employers and clients in cities like Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, and Vancouver.

For those who do want certification, there are a number of options. In addition to the certification offered by individual schools and institutions, you can receive certification as a Registered Herbalist from the American Herbalists Guild, become a member of the College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy or the National Institute of Medical Herbalists.  You can also become a Fellow of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists, or receive a certificate in herbology from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

You may also receive certification in another area of alternative medicine, such as chiropractic medicine or acupuncture, and offer herbal therapies in conjunction with other treatments. In Washington, herbalists may receive a license as an East Asian Medicine Practitioners (EAMP), which includes competency in acupuncture, herbal medicine, and massage; however, an EAMP license is not required for those providing herbal therapies.
