How to Become a Histotechnologist in Florida - FL

Histotechnologist careers in Florida are typically pursued by experienced histotechnicians interested in taking on supervisory responsibilities. The difference between these two jobs is in the amount of education these respective professionals have pursued. The histotechnician will have an associate degree, whereas the histotechnologist will have a bachelor degree or higher.

Florida is a state that requires histotechnicians to be licensed in order to practice. Students who complete associate programs will then apply and test through the Florida Department of Health’s Medical Quality Assurance Board of Laboratory Personnel. Technicians in this field may not practice until they have been licensed.

The majority of histotechnicians in Florida will work in laboratories and will never have any contact with patients. These labs can be found in hospitals such as Baptist Medical Center Downtown, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, Baptist Hospital of Miami and Baptist Hospital in Florida.
