Become a Nutritionist in South Dakota

How to Become a Nutritionist in South Dakota

A nutritionist has choices on how to pursue a career in this profession.  In South Dakota, there aren’t any legal restrictions on who can and cannot use the tittle nutritionist and this leaves the field wide open for interpretation.  The downside of this is that anyone trained or not can advertise himself or herself as a nutritionist and this creates the potential for harm and misinformation.  The upside of this is that it opens up space for creativity and uniqueness on how one goes about gathering the training the education needed to practice as a nutritionist in South Dakota.  There are many schools of thought on nutrition and the freedom to incorporate eastern as well as western training into your studies instead of being held to a rigid path allows for a greater opportunity to help more people in the state of South Dakota.

Each state individually decides the certification process that it will support.  Nutritionist certification in South Dakota is supported by a host of schools offering curriculum in nutrition science.  These schools are mostly located in and around the larger cities of Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Aberdeen and Watertown.  There are also many good medical facilities located throughout the state that support nutritionist internships and careers. Some of these are Sanford USD Medical Center, Rapid City Regional Hospital, Aver Saint Luke’s Hospital and Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center.
