To become an EMT in Florida, the application fee for licensing is $35 and the NREMT exam fee is $70. To become a paramedic in Florida, the licensing fee is $45 and the fee to the vendor proctoring the Florida written exam is $40.

In addition to submitting the written application, to become a paramedic in Florida or to become an EMT in Florida, applicants must undergo an HIV/AIDS training class, hold a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) card or an advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) card. The state will also verify that the candidate does not have a criminal background.

Passing the written and hands-on exam, demonstrating that the professional has a license in good standing in another state, having NREMT certification, already having another medical license will also qualify a candidate to satisfy Florida’s educational requirements for certification. A paramedic may also “drop down” to an EMT level certification without going through another training course.
