Becoming a Physician Assistant in Hawaii

Physician Assistant Certification and License in Hawaii

Physician assistants are medical professionals who practice medicine with the guidance of a qualified physician or surgeon.  The profession was developed to compensate the shortage of primary care doctors, and has grown at a rapid rate.  A licensed physician assistant is authorized to perform a wide-range of duties including examining patients, interpreting X ray results, and ordering necessary tests.

Physician assistants may also have the ability to write prescriptions for patients and some even assist in surgeries.  The physician assistant reports to a supervising physician at all times. Physician assistants have the choice of many areas of specialty including orthopedics, pediatrics, and surgery, among others.

The growth outlook for physician assistants is very strong with an expected national growth rate of 27%.  Hawaii falls under the national average growing at a rate of 15%, still a significant growth rate.
