The Wyoming Legislative Services Office licenses psychologists, dance hall operators, junk dealers, blood banks and geologists. The Board of Psychology operates under the Office’s aegis. This is an agency worth noting for those interested in knowing how to become a psychologist in Wyoming.
The Board of Psychology is looking for “honesty, truthfulness, integrity and competency” in its applicants. This requires you to obtain three references from licensed psychologists.
Those interested in how to become a psychologist in Wyoming must also have a transcript of their doctoral program sent to the board, along with proof of having had two years professional experience under supervision (some of the time can be before you received your doctorate; some after). And of course, you have to fill out an application and pay a fee.
The national test to determine qualifications to practice psychology is the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP). This requires another fee and you must pass this test to receive your Wyoming license. If you passed this test previously in another state with requirements similar to Wyoming, you can receive your license by endorsement.
The state wants to encourage psychologists to practice in rural areas. If you are willing to work for a state or community mental health center, the board may grant you a provisional license without having to meet the above requirements.
Additionally, if you have practiced psychology outside of Wyoming, you can have your out-of-state license verified by Wyoming and apply for a Wyoming license without having to retake the EPPP.
