Become a CNA in Idaho

How to Become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) in Idaho

The federal government demands that certified nurse assistants working in the United States complete at least seventy-five hours of documented and state-approved training, with sixteen of those training hours directed in a clinical or laboratory setting under the supervision of a registered nurse that has accomplished at least two of working experience. However, in Idaho, certified nurse assistants, or CNAs, are held to a higher standard.

Presently, aspiring CNAs in Idaho must complete a minimum of one hundred and twenty-nine hours of documented classroom activities as well as clinical instruction as part of certification programs. These courses are usually taught through presentations, lectures, guest speakers, instructional videos, CPR training, supervised clinical procedures, and self study materials. The best places to find nursing aide programs in Idaho is through state universities, or technical and community colleges in Twin Falls, Lewiston, Coeur d’Alene, Boise, Idaho Falls and Pocatello. Idaho CNA certification programs must be recognized by the Idaho Sate Board of Nursing and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare in order to qualify students for certification.

These formal education programs prepare students to sit for a state board examination. In Idaho the certification exam is administered by D & S Diversified Technologies, LLP. Nursing assistant students can download an “Idaho Nurse Aide Testing and Registry Application” through the D & S Technologies, LLP website. The application will ask for student specific information regarding personal identification (legal name, address, and social security number), current employment status, and nurse assistant program completion details. Applicants must also submit payment fees when applying. The written portion costs $30, and the oral portion is $40. However, additional fees may be charged for shipping and handling as necessary.
