A gerontologist in Idaho is defined less by a specific degree and more by the level of specialization as related to the senior population and the activities and job description one holds.
The field of gerontology is a broad and encompasses everything from the health and social services of the elderly to working with community programs for the health and happiness of the ageing portion of the community. A gerontology degree in Idaho can prepare you to work in a number of situations. The more populated areas of the state such as Boise, Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Meridian offer the most opportunities. Employers in Idaho may be found in health facilities such as hospitals, diagnostic and assessment centers, community clinics, and hospices. There is also work to be found in mental health facilities such as VA hospitals and state hospitals, treatments centers and home-based programs. If you are interested in the social services aspect of gerontology more so than the health, you can seek employment in senior centers, departments of social services or family service agencies.
