LPN Schools in Idaho

In order to obtain a license to practice in Idaho, all LPNs are required to graduate from an LPN program. Only online and campus based Idaho LPN schools offering programs that are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (or equivalent agency) are recognized and supported by the Idaho Board of Nursing. Programs are typically a minimum of one year in length, and comprise of both classroom instruction and supervised clinical practice. Clinical practice is usually focused on patient care and is taught in an appropriate health care environment, such as a hospital. All accredited programs will prepare students to sit for a national competency examination necessary for licensure in Idaho.

There are around eight NLNAC accredited nursing programs available in Idaho. All programs offer either an associate or baccalaureate degree in nursing. Some programs will require students to take a preliminary examination and/or complete prerequisite courses in general math, science, English, and humanities. A high school diploma or equivalent education (GED) is a must. Upon gaining admission, students can expect more nursing-specific coursework. For example, most program instruction will cover education in anatomy, physiology, medical-surgical nursing, pediatrics, obstetrics, psychiatric nursing, administration of medicine, and first-aid. Some classes found in Idaho programs include: Nursing in Health and Illness, Child and Family Nursing, Nursing Leadership and Management, Nutrition, Introduction to Microbiology, Interdisciplinary Patient Care Skills, and Behavioral Health Nursing.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Licensed Practical Nurses in Boise, Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Meridian, Idaho may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, and St. Luke's Boise Medical Center.
