Idaho Medical Technologist Programs and Continuing Education

Students are attracted to Idaho because it offers a wide-variety of education and training program and degree options. For instance, state colleges and universities allow students to earn either a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science or a Master of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science degree. These programs are comprised of courses in pathology, immunology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunohematology, genetics, and molecular biology.

Students can also enroll in vocational, technical or community colleges in Idaho which offer the following: Technical Certificate in Surgical Technology, Associate of Applied Science in Bioscience Laboratory Technology, and Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology. Some examples of the coursework in these programs include Introduction and Basic Sciences, Operating Room Techniques, Sterilization and Disinfection, and Surgical Technological Sciences. Of course, online school and distance learning programs are likewise available to Idaho students that prefer the convenience of home education.

Most education and training programs will prepare students to sit for a national competency examination that will result in medical technologist certification in Idaho. Students aiming for certification will want to earn at least a bachelor degree and graduate from a program that is accredited by a recognized accrediting agency such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Medical Technologists in Boise, Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Meridian, Idaho may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, and St. Luke's Boise Medical Center.
