Medical Transcriptionist Schools in Idaho - ID

Medical Transcription Schools in Idaho

While Idaho does not require medical transcriptionists to obtain college or university degrees, individuals looking to enter the field are urged to complete an accredited certificate program or obtain an associate’s degree. Medical transcription certificates that are acquired through a program that is approved by the AHDI have a better chance of obtaining a job upon completing the program. In general, medical transcriptionists should posses a typing speed of at least 45 words per minute, and possess good grammar and communication skills. There are a variety of Idaho medical transcription schools offered through an online format.

All certified medical transcriptionists in Idaho must recertify every three years. Recertification involves 30 continuing education credits. Twenty-four of these credits must be in the “core” areas and the remaining six can be from the “core” or optional areas. “Core” areas include medical transcription devices, clinical practice, emerging technologies in the workplace, and legal issues pertaining to medical care. The optional areas include coursework in the current healthcare trade, professional development, and complementary medicine.

Because the field of medical transcription does not require that a transcriptionist always be on site, many medical transcriptionists can choose to telecommute. Working from home has many advantages, as it cuts down on commuting time to and from the workplace, and for stay-at-home parents, it is a great opportunity to spend more time with their children while at the same time saving money that would otherwise be spent on daycare costs.
