Idaho Pharmacy Tech School – ID
By Allison Skoglind, allied health world contributing writerPublished: February 21st, 2010
Even though Idaho does not require pharmacy technicians to enroll in continuing education, both the ICPT and PTCB expect the completion of 20 hours of continuing education every 2 years, with one of those hours spent on pharmacy law. The ICPT and PTCB advocate continuing education to promote high professional standards within the field, and encourage pharmacy technicians to keep abreast with changes and innovations in pharmacy. Continuing education credits must be related to pharmacy technician practices and policies. Some suggested topics for continuing education include, but are not limited to: inventory control, drug repackaging, managed healthcare, and patient relations. Continuing education credits and programs must be approved by either the ICPT or the PTCB and come with a Certificate of Participation for each credit completed. Idaho pharmacy technician schools often provide a forum for continuing education. To find continuing education opportunities contact local colleges, and research courses available through the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) or the National Community of Pharmacists Association.
Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Pharmacy Techs in Boise, Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Meridian, Idaho may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, and St. Luke's Boise Medical Center.
