Surgical Technologist Training in Idaho

If you want to learn how to become a surgical tech in Idaho, consider first the importance of surgical technologists in the operating room. The role of surgical technologists should never be taken for granted. It is these professionals that provide surgical support and assistance to the main surgeon, sometimes delineating the difference between a successful or failed operation.

Idaho surgical technologist training is in-depth and integral. Not only do surgical techs need to be well versed in human anatomy and surgical procedures, they also need to be able to work effectively and professionally under time restraints, as well as in life and death situations. For this reason, your Idaho surgical technologist career will begin with an invasive 6-month training trial.

Consider all of the things that a surgical technologist is expected to do in the operating room. Working under direct supervision of surgeons and registered nurses, your clinical training in Idaho will consist of the following:

  • Arranging, organizing, and preparing surgical equipment for surgeons and operative staff
  • Restocking surgical supplies as needed
  • Cleaning surgical supplies
  • Placing the patient in the proper position for surgery
  • Postoperative cleanup
  • Handing instrumentation to the surgeon during surgery
  • CPR Administration

Once you have finished this trial period, you will be eligible for certification. Although certification is voluntary, you are not likely to find an employer in Idaho that will hire you without it. The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) will test you on your educational studies and surgical training. Upon completion, you will be labeled as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and will be ready to work.
