Medical Transcription Schools in Illinois

The medical transcription career field in Illinois is unique in that even the most basic education is not required to practice as a medical transcriptionist; however, good luck getting a job without it. The medical transcriptionist career field is very demanding and only the most accurate and competent of Illinois students will find themselves employed in this field.

With that being said, it is absolutely important for an Illinois student to attend some type of educational training program related to medical transcription. There simply isn’t any job market for an untrained medical transcriptionist, so it is important that the school be valid and approved by the AHDI. There are a variety of online Illinois medical transcription schools, as well as a few that are campus-based.

A medical transcriptionist in Illinois can either gain a certificate of accomplishment in medical transcription or an associate’s degree. Most certificate programs only take between 9 and 12 months to complete, whereas associate’s degrees require two years of study. There is theoretically no preference given to one student over the other in relation to their degree; however, the accreditation of the school by AHDI is certainly something that will make a medical transcriptionist more marketable when looking for a job.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Medical Transcriptionists in Chicago, Aurora, Rockford and Joliet, Illinois may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Evanston Hospital, Advocate Christ Medical Center, and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
