Surgical Technologist Training in Illinois

An Illinois surgical technologist training program is designed to help you prepare for the state licensure examination and entry into your career as a surgical technologist. Surgical technologists are exposed to a variety of different surgeries. So, not only must they be well educated, but they must also be comfortable in the presence of dramatic surgeries.

If you are interested to learn how to become a surgical tech in Illinois, then the best place to start is with your training. Prior to graduation, you will be required to complete a surgical training period in Illinois, which usually lasts anywhere from 3 to 6 months. During that time, you will work in a surgical setting where you learn the following valuable skills:

  • Appropriately positioning a patient for surgery
  • Preparing and organizing surgical tools for the surgeon’s use
  • Sterilizing surgical equipment to prevent infection
  • Working collaboratively with surgeons and surgical staff
  • Administering life-saving measures when needed

After you have completed this training period, you will be ready to take the test for state licensure in Illinois. The State of Illinois accepts certification obtained from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). In conjunction with the NBSTSA’s fees, the State of Illinois charges a $100 fee for their state license.
