In Indiana, medical coding and billing jobs are predicted to increase by a minimum of 20% between 2008 and 2018. One of the reasons for this projected growth is the continuous demand for medical care in Indiana. In fact, the Cancer Control Plan found that the second leading cause of death for Indiana residents was cancer. The American Cancer Society further estimated that approximately 32,160 new cancer cases are diagnosed every year in Indiana, while an average of 13,250 residents die from cancer each year.
This upward trend of life-threatening medical conditions like cancer creates the need for continuous, treatment-related care in Indiana. With health complications like these on the rise, the need for healthcare professionals, including coders and billers, is certain.
