Find the right school for you
While it is not necessary to hold a degree to apply for many of the jobs availble in medical office management, it is highly recommended that an interested candidate attend at least some minimal schooling to grasp the major responsibilities involved with business management and healthcare. This field is limitless in the advancement possibilities and the education available to prepare you to enter into any level of this profession.
Employees that have advanced into this career without traditional education have most often received their education on the job and hold many years experience in the healthcare and/or business management profession. This experience could include anything from working as an aid to an administrator in a large hospital to assisting a group of physicians in their private practice with hands on experience in the daily operations of a clinic. It is more common for a person to seek education and accreditation and enter the field of medical office management that way.
Four-year bachelor’s degrees in medical office management will open the door to many employment opportunities in Indiana, especially in the larger cities of Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Evansville. There are also two-year associate’s degrees and certification programs available that concentrate more specifically on healthcare and office management but typically prepare the applicant for more entry-level positions.
