Indiana Medical Transcriptionist Certifications
After an Indiana student has chosen an accredited school, the next step is to consider his or her long-term career goals. The student can do this by learning about two types of credentials offered by the AHDI; which are the RMT, registered medical transcriptionist, or the CMT, certified medical transcriptionist.
The RMT designation is an entry-level credential that all recently graduated students are eligible for after having passed the RMT examination. The AHDI requires nothing of an Indiana student to take this test, yet they warn that the test is very inclusive and preparing properly will help to ensure a passing grade. The test for an RMT cost $200 and RMT’s are only required to take one online course every three years to keep their certification current.
The CMT examination, on the other hand, is only available to existing RMT’s that have a minimum of two years experience working in an acute care facility. The examination fee for the RMT test is $275. In addition, RMT’s are required to take at least 30 credit hours of study in their field every three years to keep their credential as an RMT.
