Phlebotomy Certification Exam in Indiana – IN

How to become a Phlebotomist in Indiana

Indiana’s position at the crossroads of the north and south, east and west, makes it an ideal operating base for various industries, such as major trucking lines, established manufacturing industries, and most notably, health care professionals. For those who may occasionally want to visit other large cities outside of but yet close to the state, Indiana provides easy access to a number of major cities, such as Chicago, Louisville, and Cincinnati. While Indiana may be the smallest state west of the Appalachian Mountains, it is by no means small in its impact and presence -- nor in its need for educated health care professionals.

A phlebotomist is a health care professional trained specifically in the process of drawing blood and capably handling all related activities, such as interacting with patients, updating patient records, and preparing samples. The salary range for a phlebotomist begins in the mid-twenties, and can go as high as the upper forties, depending on such factors as location, years of experience, and education.

Advantages of being a phlebotomist include being able to determine one’s own schedule and hours, as well as choosing full time or part time, permanent or temporary, per diem, overtime, etc.

The requirements to become a phlebotomist vary slightly from state to state, predictably. Indiana does not require phlebotomists to be licensed in order to draw blood. However, becoming employed as a phlebotomist is extremely difficult unless certification is present. Again, it is not technically required, but the profession is moving to the point where it is considered to be a basic qualification.
