You have two degree options for working as a radiology technician: an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree. Both degrees have different merits and values, which you should consider before you decide which is most suitable for you. An associate’s degree is a two-year degree and a bachelor’s degree is a four-year degree. The difference is obviously that a bachelor’s degree will be much more comprehensive and intensive in nature.

The State of Indiana requires you to have one degree or the other. Their basis is simply that each student needs to be properly educated before working in this field. The choice as to which degree is best for your individual goals is completely up to you. Most students can make this determination based on whether or not they are interested in working in a specialty area of radiologic technology. There are several Indiana radiology technician schools, and a plethora of online degrees in this field available. Online degrees have the advantage of a convenient schedule to “attend” class at the times and places that work with your schedule.

Mammography is a specialty area which requires a bachelor’s degree for employment. The reason for this is that the field of mammography is slightly different from that of standard CT scanning, as is common in radiology. It is a good idea to have an associate’s degree in hand and to beginning working as a radiology technician while still working on your bachelor’s degree. This can help to ensure a more solid foundation for your continued educational studies.

The most important thing to remember when choosing a school is that it should be accredited by the JRCERT. A great variety of online educational institutions now hold this level of accreditation. What that means is that you can use the convenience of online education to your benefit while still maintaining the accreditation requirement.

Through campus or online programs, aspiring Radiology Technicians in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Evansville, Indiana may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Vincent Hospital and Health Center, Francis Hospital and Health Center and Methodist Hospital of Clarian Health.
