Indiana Ultrasound Technician Education

In addition to its car races, sand dunes, manufacturing plants, and other industries, Indiana is full of stunning cliffs, rolling hills, and potential opportunities in health care. Indiana's major cities and proximity to Chicago, Bloomington-Normal, and Champaign-Urbana increase the State's appeal, providing Ultrasound Technicians with the greatest potential for employment and growth. With a low cost of living, a potential for high earnings, and an ever-growing population in its rural areas and major cities, Indiana shows many prospects for a stable career as an Ultrasound Technician.

A typical Bachelor's degree program through Indiana ultrasound technician schools consists of one year of prerequisite courses while earning an Associate's in Radiologic Technology over the course of two total years, plus two additional years to complete the sonography portion of the degree. Classes in the Associate's degree program typically involve instruction in radiography, human biology, patient care, pathology, radiographic procedures, and workplace diversity. Students also gain two full years of hands-on experience as Radiographic Technologists, which they can actively transfer to their Bachelor's degree program.

The Bachelor's degree provides students with a background in ultrasound physics, human anatomy, and gynecological, abdominal, cardiac, and vascular ultrasound. They must be registered through the ARRT as Radiologic Technologists in order to complete this program.

If a Bachelor's degree candidate completes his degree and becomes a licensed Sonographer, he has to maintain his certification by completing 12 continuing education credits every two years. Continuing education credits focus on developing an Ultrasound Technician's core competencies in the field, and aim to expand their knowledge of other professions.
