The most basic degree that you will be allowed as a radiology technician is that of an associate’s degree. An associate’s degree should take about two years of schooling and will give you an in-depth understanding of radiology, procedures, and patient care. You will also be taught the safest and most effective ways to use and transport radiological elements.

A bachelor’s degree will be a little more intense and will take roughly four years of education to obtain. This type of degree is not required to enter the profession, but it is required to work in some specialty environments of radiology. The most common specialty area is mammography.

Before you decide which to degree to aim for, you should always consider the potential outcome of your career. If you have a desire to work only as a radiology technician, then you will be certainly set with an associate’s degree. However, if you are interested in furthering your career or working one of the specialties of radiology, you may want to consider working for a bachelor’s degree.

Keep in mind that no matter which degree you choose, you want to make sure that you get it from an accredited school. The State of Iowa and the ARRT are not going to let you proceed in this career field without it.

Many students in this profession would prefer to obtain their education online because it allows them to dedicate more study time to their field.
