There is not a set education plan for a dental assistant since the majority of their knowledge will come from on-the-job training, instruction and observation. High school courses that would prove helpful are biology, chemistry, health, math, and office practices and procedures. The Dental Assisting National Board issues certification through examination to dental assistants, but this is not required for Kansas dental assistants. Kansas Dental Assistant Continuing Education Requirements

Dental assistants do not have to complete any continuing education. However, obtaining additional training, becoming qualified to perform expanded functions or even completing a DANB national examination, will only strengthen your skills and make you more marketable in your field. CPR certification must be kept current for dental assistants.
