There is not a set education plan for a dental assistant since the majority of their knowledge will come from on-the-job training, instruction and observation. High school courses that would prove helpful are biology, chemistry, health, math, and office practices and procedures. The Dental Assisting National Board issues certification through examination to dental assistants, but this is not required for Kansas dental assistants. Dental assistants do not have to complete any continuing education.
