There is one accredited physician assistant program in Kansas.  Although there aren’t multiple physician assistant programs in Kansas, residents can choose to pursue distance learning or find an out-of-state program.  The two main admission requirements for this program are that applicants must have graduated with a bachelor’s degree and within that time or in addition to that degree, have completed the following courses with at least a 3.0: General chemistry, general biology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, statistic, and a higher level physiology class like pathophysiology.

If accepted into the program, students will complete 41 credits of instruction and 39 credits of clinical and/or research in their first year.  The classes and labs taken will give the student the knowledge they need in order to be a physician assistant.  The second year consists of clinical rotations in behavioral health, emergency care, family practice, gynecology/prenatal, internal medicine, and pediatrics.  In these rotations, the student will work with health care professionals practicing the skills they learned throughout their first year.  Also in the second year students will complete a thesis research project under the direction of faculty, which is a graduation requirement.
